Tofranil falls within the group of drugs referred to as imipramines. The medicine is regarded as a tricyclic antidepressant and comes in the form of oral pills. The medicine also belongs to the group of benzodiazepines. The inactive components of Tofranil include: cellulose compounds, sodium starch glycolate, calcium phosphate, talc, sucrose, povidone, docusate sodium, magnesium stearate, iron oxides, titanium dioxide and polyethylene glycol.
Tofranil is used for the treatment of persistent mental depression. It can be also used as a part of combination treatment for decreasing the rate of enuresis (incontinence) in children over the age of 5 and adults. This medication is used only in the cases of incontinence, when the patients don’t have any gallbladder disorders.

Doctors usually prescribe low dosage (75 mg) of the medicine in the initial stage of the treatment. Later on, the dose may be gradually to about 200 mg a day.
